A person has died after a single-vehicle crash in Cavendish, Ashburton, overnight.

Police said they were called to the scene on Anama Valetta Road about 10.45pm.

One person died at the scene, while another was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The Serious Crash Unit has examined the scene, and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
