A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car on Fitzgerald Avenue in Christchurch.
A police spokesperson said emergency services were notified of the incident at 5.50pm on Sunday.
The crash happened on the northbound lane of Fitzgerald Avenue, between Kilmore Street and Bealey Avenue.
Police said the pedestrian was reported to have sustained serious injuries.
St John was also in attendance.
The Serious Crash Unit has been called to the scene and the northbound lane remains closed.
As of 7.20pm, police advised the northbound section of Fitzgerald Avenue between Kilmore Street and Bealey Avenue would remain closed for some time while investigations continue.
