A pedestrian has died following a crash involving a truck on State Highway 1 at Peketā, just south of Kaikōura.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 9.20am, near the intersection with Inland Kaikōura Road and Rakanui Road.
State Highway 1 remains closed in both directions, with the Serious Crash Unit attending the scene.
Traffic management is being put in place, and motorists are being advised to avoid the area and instead use Inland Kaikōura Road and Leader Road East via Mt Lyford.
The road is expected to remain closed for some time.
