One person has died and another has been seriously injured after a crash involving two pedestrians in Leeston.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Leeston and Lakes Road and Harts Road at around 7.40pm on Friday following reports of a vehicle hitting two people.

One pedestrian died at the scene. The other suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police said the Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
