The NZ Transport Agency has closed State Highway 8 between Fairlie and Twizel following heavy snow and icy conditions.

The closure came into effect at 2.12am on Tuesday and remains in place until further notice.

Drivers are being urged to delay their travel or use an alternative route.

Crews are monitoring the situation, and NZTA said updates will be provided as conditions.
