Northlands mall has been evacuated this evening due to a suspected gas leak.

Shoppers were evacuated just before 7pm.

A spokeswoman for Northlands said the centre would not reopen this evening.

She said the at this stage the source of the leak is unconfirmed.

Several shoppers told Chris Lynch they were frustrated at not being told what was happening as no information was provided on the mall’s social media pages.

There’s no word on whether the mall will reopen tomorrow morning.

The spokeswoman for the mall said in the first instance workers should liaise with their manager.

“We will be communicating further with store managers on the centre status.”
