One person has died following the serious crash on SH6 near Kokorua Road, Whangamoa.

Police were called to the accident at 3.35pm.

A spokesperson says others are reported to have sustained injuries.

The road remains closed, and motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay travel if possible.

It’s understood multiple cars are involved.  

A helicopter was deployed to the scene.
