Firefighters from across Canterbury are battling a large scrub fire at Pines Beach near Kaiapoi.
A Fire command unit has been set up and at least three helicopters are fighting the blaze according to nearby residents.
A resident said at least two sheds had been destroyed.
Fire and Emergency spokesman is urgency the public to stay away from the area.
