Christchurch police have arrested a man after a vehicle crashed into a power pole and then a house on Frankleigh Street in Somerfield.

The incident occurred just after 3am, a police spokesperson said.

The driver then attempted to flee the scene but was located a short time later not far from the crash site.

He has been summonsed to appear in the Christchurch District Court on driving related charges.

Meanwhile, St John said they responded with an ambulance, a rapid response unit, and a manager.

Crews assessed and treated the patient, who was then transported to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.
