A man is fighting for his life after an assault at Burnham military camp on Saturday morning.
Chris Lynch Media understands the incident occurred at the Burnham Junior Ranks Club within Burnham Military Camp.
Detective Inspector Craig Farrant, Canterbury District Field Crime Manager told chrislynchmedia.com “Two people are before the courts following an assault at a Canterbury military facility.
“Police received the report of the alleged assault at around 12.30am on Saturday.
“The victim has sustained critical injuries.
“Two men, aged 25 and 27, have been charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday 22 June.
“Police are not seeking anybody else in relation to this incident.
Canterbury police are working closely with the New Zealand Defence Force on this incident, and as the matter is before the courts.
Police are unable to comment further, Farrant said.
The New Zealand Defence Force has been approached for comment.
