A man has been arrested following an armed police operation in the Christchurch suburb of Parklands.

Chrislynchmedia.com understands the man was taken into custody shortly after 10am near Putake Drive.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Parklands at about 9.20am following reports of a disturbance involving a person allegedly presenting a firearm.

“There have been no reports of injuries, and there is no confirmation a firearm was involved, but one man has been taken into custody,” she said.

Police cordoned off several streets as the incident unfolded, with multiple residents reporting a significant armed police presence.

Residents told chrislynchmedia.com they were prevented from walking down Reka Street while the operation was underway.

One resident said a police vehicle was stationed on a residential berm while armed officers moved through nearby driveways.

As of 11am, the police presence in the area appeared to have been scaled back.
