A man has been arrested following an assault in Upper Riccarton this morning.

A police spokesman said emergency services responded to the incident on Hansons Lane just before 11am.

A St John spokeswoman said they were notified of the assault and responded with an operations manager and a rapid response unit.

She said one patient, in a minor condition, was assessed and treated at the scene.

The police spokesman said one person was taken into custody at the scene.

No further details were immediately available.
