A man has been arrested at the Canterbury Earthquake Memorial on the banks of the Avon River this afternoon.
A witness said a police officer drew their taser on the man, who was surrounded by several officers just before 3pm.
A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com a 28-year-old man was taken into custody and will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow, charged with possessing a knife in a public place.
Police confirmed the taser was not discharged.
