There is a significant armed police presence in Papanui this evening following a serious incident in the area.

Chris Lynch Media understands at least 4 people were injured, including 2 seriously, with emergency services called to Hoani Street about 9.30pm.

The house involved is closer to Greers Road. Police have been approached for comment.

At least one person suffered serious injuries, initially reported as stab wounds and was rushed to Christchurch Hospital, Chris Lynch Media understands.

Multiple ambulances responded to the scene, along with armed police.

Police remain at the scene while emergency services manage the response.

A police officer at the cordon said a firearm may have been involved, but police are yet to confirm the details.

Offenders responsible had left the area in a car.

A resident told chrislynchmedia.com he heard a vehicle screeching down the street and ran outside to see what had happened.

Minutes later, a large police presence arrived on the street.
