A period of unsettled weather due to descend on Canterbury over the next couple of days has prompted Fire and Emergency Canterbury to issue a warning.

High winds are currently forecast for Sunday and Monday.

Fire and Emergency Canterbury is advising anyone thinking of lighting a fire today or over the next couple of days, to reconsider and wait for a more settled weather period.

Any fires that have been lit in the previous week should be checked to make sure they are fully extinguished.

This involves turning the pile over to check for hot embers and pouring water over the pile if found.

Remember the high winds love to displace loose objects in your garden, so tie down the trampoline and pack away the light outdoor furniture.
