A batch of Hydr8 Spring Water has been recalled due to the possible presence of soft blue plastic fragments, which could pose a choking hazard.

New Zealand Food Safety is supporting NZ Drinks Ltd in recalling its 600ml bottles of Hydr8 Spring Water sold in 24 packs, with best-before dates of 10 June 2027, 11 June 2027, and 16 June 2027.

Deputy director-general Vincent Arbuckle said the recall was issued as a precaution after concerns the product may contain shreds of blue plastic.

“If you have any Hydr8 Spring Water in the 24-pack of 600ml bottles, with best-before dates of 10 June 27, 11 June 27 and 16 June 27, don’t drink it,” Arbuckle said. “Return it to the place of purchase for a refund. If that’s not possible, throw it out.”

The affected products were sold at selected supermarkets across the North Island. They have now been removed from store shelves and were not exported.

New Zealand Food Safety has not received any reports of injury linked to the product.

Arbuckle said NZFS will work with NZ Drinks Ltd to determine how the contamination occurred and ensure it does not happen again.
