Police are investigating the sudden death of Owen Fraser, the loving husband of a man killed by a fleeing driver.

Mr Fraser’s husband Kenneth McCaul was driving to work in October last year when he was killed at the intersection of Glandovey and Idris roads by a fleeing driver .

A police scene guard is stationed outside Owen Fraser’s house in Kaiapoi.

A close family friend confirmed the devastating news to Chris Lynch.

A police spokeswoman said police are in attendance at a sudden death in Kaiapoi this afternoon.

She said enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances however at this early stage it doesn’t appear to be suspicious.

“Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.”

Just last month Owen Fraser told Newstalk ZB he never blamed police for what happened to his husband.

““The police weren’t in the wrong, it was the driver who wouldn’t stop who’s in the wrong.”

“I can see that they’re trying to make sure the police stick to the rules and give up on a chase at a certain time but what are you going to do? Let this guy go wild around the city? No way, it’s not their fault at all.”

Fraser said he was handling the lead up to the one year anniversary of McCaul’s death ‘okay’ and he missed him.
