A garage at a residential property in Yaldhurst has been destroyed in an early morning fire.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Simon Lyford told chrislynchmedia.com crews were initially called to what was reported as a backyard fire on Strathcarron Place at about 1am.

However, multiple calls were then received, prompting an upgraded response, with a second crew from Ilam dispatched to assist.

Lyford said when crews from Wigram arrived, the fire was well involved, leading to a third crew from Spreydon being called to the scene.

He confirmed the fire occurred at a residential dwelling.

By 2am, the fire had been extinguished, although crews remained at the property dampening down hotspots.

A fire investigator has been called to the scene. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and it is not known whether it is being treated as suspicious.
