A fire has destroyed a unit on Waltham Road this morning.

Multiple fire appliances were called to the blaze at Waltham Courts, near Brougham Street, at 7.30AM.

No one was injured.

A neighbour told Chris Lynch she was woken up by a passerby banging on her door.

“I ran outside and saw a lot of smoke coming from the unit next door and could see a bright orange glow coming from the bedroom.

I ran inside but no one was home. By the time I got back outside the fire had grown much bigger.”

Multiple police officers were at the scene of the fire which is being treated as suspicious.
