Emergency services are responding to a water related incident in Kaikoura this afternoon.

A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com at around 12.40pm, they were alerted to a boat having capsized in South Bay.

Police are working at the scene, the spokesperson said.

A rescue helicopter has been called to the scene.

A Coastguard spokeswoman said police alerted their Coastguard National Operations Centre.

Volunteers from Coastguard Kaikoura aboard Kaikora Rescue have responded.
