The death toll from the horrific Bondi terror attack has risen to at least 16 people, including a 10 year old schoolgirl, with fears the number of victims will continue to grow.

Hundreds of people have fled the scene on Sunday night after two men dressed in black opened fire on families attending a Jewish Hanukkah festival.

Terrifying footage has shown the gunmen positioned on a footbridge above the carpark linking Campbell Parade to the beach, firing what witnesses said could have been up to 50 shots.

A further 42 people have been injured, including two police officers who were shot in the worst mass shooting in Australia since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre.

The two terrorists who gunned down Jewish Australians at Bondi Beach on Sunday are confirmed to be father and son, according to NSW Police.

The father, 50, was a licensed gun owner with six registered firearms and his son has been identified as Naveed Akram.

NSW Police said Akram was under guard at hospital with critical injuries.

“Multiple officers exchanged fire with the two men with two officers – a constable and probationary constable – suffering gunshot wounds,” a NSW police spokesman said.

“During the incident one shooter – a 50-year-old man – was shot by police and died at the scene.

“The other shooter – a 24-year-old man – suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard.”

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns confirmed the ages of the victims range from 10 years old to 87.

A total of 328 officers will be on the ground on Monday morning as authorities continue to investigate the attack, which was officially declared a terror incident on Sunday night.

Earlier, NSW Health Minister Ryan Park confirmed the death toll had risen to 16 people.

FBI Director Kash Patel has revealed he reached out to offer assistance to Australian authorities as they investigate the Bondi Beach terror attack.

“I have been in touch with our counterparts in Australia regarding the horrific attack on a Hanukkah festival in Sydney,” he said.

“We are providing the requested assistance and will update with more information as we are able.

“Please keep the victims and their families in your prayers.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Christoper Luxon said “last night’s horrific attack at Bondi Beach has been confirmed by Australian authorities as a terrorist attack targeting Jewish people.

“Hanukkah is a time of peace and joy, not of pain and grief. This vile act of hatred and antisemitism is something all New Zealanders condemn.

“My thoughts are with the Jewish community in Australia and with people of Jewish faith here in New Zealand and around the world.

“This morning, I spoke with Jewish community leadership in New Zealand to reaffirm our intolerance for antisemitism and reiterated the Government’s commitment to safety and inclusion of all Jewish people in our country.

“Bondi is a place Kiwis live in and visit every day. At this stage, we have no indication of New Zealanders caught up in the attack, but we stand ready to work with Australian authorities.”
