Police have cordoned off part of Deans Ave in Christchurch following a gas leak.

A police spokesperson told Chris Lynch Media cordons were in place at the intersections of Moorhouse Avenue and Deans Avenue, and Riccarton Road and Deans Avenue.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews are at the scene, along with a gas contractor.

The leak has been isolated.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the leak is dealt with.
