Citycare Group has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Officer Onno Mulder.

Mulder has been with Citycare for twenty years after joining as Divisional Manager Civil in 2000.

In 2005 he was appointed to the Group CEO role.

Board Chair, Bryan Jamison, said that Mulder had provided strong leadership and delivered business growth during his time as Chief Executive with the company maturing into a leading national provider of construction and maintenance services across New Zealand’s built environment

The Christchurch City Council-owned company posted a loss for the second year in a row in 2019, the biggest fall in its history, according to the Christchurch Press.

The Christchurch Press reported that Citycare blamed its post-tax loss of $724,000 on $2 million of excess costs on a single construction contract and a $1m loss from winding up a previously profitable joint venture doing rebuild work for Ōtākaro.

Mulder says it has been a privilege to lead Citycare for the past fifteen years.

“I have led the organisation during a number of particularly turbulent times in New Zealand’s history when our services and support for our communities have never been needed more. During the 2010/11 Canterbury earthquakes and the current Covid pandemic it has been Citycare teams that have kept the towns and cities that we work in going. I have had a great team around me and I thank them for their support.

“I am leaving at a time when Citycare has experienced strong revenue and profit growth across all regions. It feels like the right time for new leadership to take the business through its next growth phase,” said Mulder.

Mulder will leave Citycare on 16 October.
