Christchurch police “move on” Mongrel Mob members

A large Mongrel Mob gang presence in Papanui has prompted Christchurch police to move them on.

A police spokesperson told Chris Lynch around midday, police received a number of calls from people concerned about the presence of gang members in cars and on motorbikes in the Cranford Street area.

“Police have attended and spoken with those there, and they have moved on without further incident.”

“Police have been continuing to engage with the gang members as they travel through the South Island, and officers will respond to any issue as and when they arise.”

An eyewitness said traffic started to build up because members were blocking the road.

More than 100 Mongrel Mob members have descended on Christchurch this weekend according to the New Zealand Herald, and some of those travelling south posed for photos on the Cook Strait ferry.
