Police were called to an alleged stabbing incident in central Christchurch last night.

It happened just after 10.30PM on Madras Street, near Bealey Avenue.

A police spokeswoman said police responded to a report of a stabbing.

“The victim was assessed and treated by ambulance at the scene, so no indication there were serious injuries.”

A motorist driving home on Madras Street with his brother said a man waved him down and came up to his car window.

“His face was bleeding so I asked what happened. He told us that two guys attacked him and his friend and took his phone.”

The motorist said he found the two alleged offenders further up the road and asked for the phone back.

He said they refused and one offender pulled out a knife, so he backed away and called police.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said one manager, one ambulance, and a rapid response vehicle responded and treated one patient at the scene in a minor condition.

The police spokeswoman said “police made enquiries in the area to locate the two alleged offenders but were unable to locate them and enquiries are ongoing.”
