A person has drowned in Akaroa today.

A police spokeswoman told chrislyncmedia.com police were notified about 1.15pm that a person had been pulled from the water by the Harbourmaster.

CPR was administered, however sadly they were not able to be revived.

Drummond Wharf is currently cordoned off while emergency services work at the scene, the police spokeswoman said.

A St John spokeswoman said it was notified of the incident and responded with a PRIME vehicle and a first response unit.

A local resident said fire services cordoned off the area.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
