Kitchen Things Holdings Limited and Appliance Works Limited have been placed into receivership at the request of their directors.

Kitchen Things is a New Zealand, family-owned network of stores specialising in kitchen appliances.

The business has showrooms across the Auckland region, including North Shore, Newmarket, Mt Wellington and Botany Outlet, as well as in Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch and Dunedin.

A printed notice on the doors of Kitchen Things store in Christchurch on Moorhouse Ave read: “Kitchen Things NZ Limited and Appliance Works (2015) Limited trading as Jones Services have been placed into receivership as of Wednesday, 20 August 2025. If you have any questions please email [email protected].”

According to a notice filed under the Receiverships Act 1993, ASB Bank appointed three insolvency practitioners from Grant Thornton New Zealand Limited as receivers and managers of the companies on 20 August 2025.

The appointment was made under the terms of general security deeds granted by the companies to ASB in 2016 and 2019.

Malcolm Russell Moore, Stephen Speers Keen, and Adele Irene Hicks, all licensed insolvency practitioners and chartered accountants, have been appointed as joint receivers and managers of all the assets and property of the companies.

A family member of a long term Christchurch worker told Chris Lynch Media staff had no warning when they arrived at work.

“They got to work with no warning that the locks are being changed and the company is in receivership. They are in a meeting.

“They had no warning until they got to work. The company is Kitchen Things run by Jones Family Business.

Everyone up and down the country, every location is going through the same.”
