Police have launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found deceased at a Burnham property early this morning.

Emergency services were called to an address on Burnham School Road at about 3.05am following a report of disorder. On arrival, Police located the body of a woman at the property.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Simmons said a 19-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with murder. He is also facing two charges of assault in a family relationship.

“He is assisting Police with our enquiries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Simmons said.

Cordons remain in place at the Burnham School Road address while a scene examination continues.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Christchurch District Court this afternoon.

Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
