Bill Mitchell, New Zealand’s oldest surviving war Veteran, has passed away peacefully this morning at 108 years of age.
39639 Sgt William Joseph (Bill) Mitchell, RNZAF, WW2, served in the RNZAF in the Pacific theatre of WW2.
Mitchell attended many Anzac Day services.
This year he led Christchurch’s parade.
During a special radio show he once told Chris Lynch the secret to a long life was raw garlic and rum.
Former RSA Christchurch President Pete Dawson confirmed the news this morning.
Funeral arrangements were being worked out this afternoon.
