A man has been arrested following a serious assault at a residential property on Fitzgerald Avenue in Christchurch.
Police said a 40 year old man was due to appear in the Christchurch District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Detective Sergeant Ben Rolton said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Emergency services were called to the Fitzgerald Avenue address at around 12.20pm on Monday, where a man was found in a critical condition with injuries consistent with being stabbed.
Rolton said a scene guard remained in place at the property overnight while officers carried out their investigation.
The victim remains in hospital and was now in a stable condition.
Police thanked the public for their assistance and patience while enquiries were carried out.
Rolton said police would not be making any further comment as the matter was now before the courts.
