Christchurch police are investigating after a 14 year old boy was punched and robbed in broad daylight in New Brighton.
His mother told chrislynchmedia.com her son was near the local dairy and had been sitting on the side of the road just after 4PM on Sunday, with his bike waiting for friends when two cars arrived and five youths got out.
She said her son was punched in the face and his backpack was stolen, containing his phone, air pods and Bluetooth speaker.
The same group of offenders were later seen speeding in Waltham, reaching speeds of up to 150 kilometres per hour.
Police Metro Area Response Manager Inspector Paul Reeves confirmed they were investigating the aggravated robbery.
He confirmed two stolen vehicles were involved in the attack on the teenage victim.
Inspector Reeves said the occupants of the stolen vehicles are also being sought in relation to a fleeing driver incident which police were made aware of ten minutes later in Parklands.
Police are exploring several avenues of enquiry, including forensic examinations and CCTV footage from the area.
Police have recovered both stolen vehicles and continue to make enquiries.
