The New Zealand Motor Caravan Association has this week opened its new motor caravan park in the Red Zone area of Kaiapoi East.
The caravan park is a key component of the Kaiapoi Town Centre Plan which was adopted by the Waimakariri District Council in 2018.
Waimakariri District Council’s Senior Business and Centre’s Advisor Vanessa Thompson says the Council is pleased to welcome the NZCMA to Kaiapoi through the opening of its new motor caravan park.
But not all residents are happy, with one local concerned over where the caravans will park when they travel along Kaiapoi’s main street to go shopping and eat out.
“And just where will they park when they venture out into the town, the resident said.
“Williams Street is already a traffic nightmare. This council is good at making statements, but doesn’t like to answer questions.”
Vanessa Thompson says Council hopes the motor caravan park will be a great catalyst for further development in the Mixed-Use Business areas of Kaiapoi, as well as bringing an economic boost to the town.
“We look forward to the additional town centre vibrancy and custom NZMCA members will bring to Kaiapoi businesses, retail, and hospitality outlets, particularly over the summer months.”
