Police have today arrested a man following a violent home invasion in Opawa on Sunday.
A 31-year-old male is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow on charges including aggravated burglary and assault.
An 18 year old woman was returning home at 3.44AM when she disturbed an offender trying to gain access to her garage on Fifield Terrace.
A nearby resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the 18-year-old screamed in fear and was then viciously attacked by an offender.
The woman’s screams woke up her father, who lives with her. He was also seriously assaulted by the offender.
Police published details of the attack on Wednesday morning after inquiries were made by Chris Lynch Media on Monday.
Both father and daughter suffered severe facial bruising, with one suffering a broken nose according to neighbours.
A next door neighbour’s house was burgled on the same morning as the attack, but police won’t comment if the two crimes are linked.
Police have thanked the public for their assistance.
