A Christchurch driver has been taken to hospital after flipping their car upside down.

A police spokeswoman says emergency services received a report of a car rolling on Wairakei Road shortly after 8pm.

The elderly driver was trapped for a short time.

A St John Ambulance spokesman says the driver was taking to hospital with moderate injuries.
