State Highway 7 at Waipara was closed for two hours this afternoon because of several scrub fires at Frog Rock.

A fire and Emergency spokesman said they received the call at 4.40pm to three scrub fires.

Three rural fire appliances from Waipara, Wakari and Hurunui stations attended.

State Highway 7 was closed in both directions at Frog Rock while firefighters put out the fires.

There’s no word on how they started.

However, the spokesman said there were no trains operating in the area at the time of the fires.
