A home in upper Riccarton has been destroyed by fire last night.

Fire appliances were called to the blaze at a single-storey flat on Church Corner about 9.35pm.

A Fire and Emergency Spokeswoman says the fire was well ablaze by the time firefighters arrived.

Two low pressure hoses and one high pressure hose were required along with 6 breathing apparatus.

She says occupants of the house were having a party when the fire broke out.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and minor cuts.

It is understood to be a Christchurch City Council flat.

The fire was just metres from Countdown Church Corner carpark.

Nearby roads were blocked off including Riccarton Road west bound.

A Fire investigator has been called to the scene, but it’s not known how the fire started.

Firefighters left the scene just before 2AM.
