Emergency services attend two suspicious fires at cell towers in Christchurch tonight

Fire crews have attended two cell tower fires in Christchurch tonight which are being treated as suspicious.

Fire crews were called to the first blaze at 8.30PM on Mairehau Road, near Chartwell Avenue at the Chorus telephone exchange tower.

An eye witness told Chris Lynch the tower, which is opposite Burwood Hospital, was on fire.

The second fire was located at a cell tower near Mitre 10 off Ferry Road.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman said both fires are being treated as suspicious.

He said Fire and Emergency is trying to establish who the owner of the second tower is.

Police have been called to the scene of both fires.
