Canterbury police have just advised all units involved in what was described as a water incident in Sumner have been stood down.

A police spokeswoman says there is no confirmation of anyone in the water.

Just before 10pm, a helicopter was seen hovering above waters over Sumner beach.

Firefighters lined parts of Redcliffs and Sumner coastline shining spotlights into shallow waters.
