Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash in Hoon Hay.

A police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch Media they received a report of a two-vehicle crash on Hoon Hay Road about 5pm, where a vehicle also struck a pole.

A Hato Hone St John spokeswoman said they responded with an ambulance, one manager, and one rapid response unit.

A man, who was able to get himself out of the vehicle he was driving, sustained serious injuries and has been rushed to Christchurch Hospital.

Fire and Emergency crews were also at the scene.

There has also been some damage to the pole/lines and traffic management is in place.
