Parents at Cashmere High School parents are being told not to worry, after a student was identified as a close contact of Christchurch’s new community Covid case.

The positive case works at Sudima Airport Hotel’s MIQ where about 240 overseas deep sea fishermen are staying.

The Cashmere High student has tested negative and is isolating at home.

In a letter sent to parents, Medical Officer of Health Community & Public Health said “please be assured that the student is self-isolating at home and has tested negative for the virus.”

It said “students and staff do not need to be tested unless they have symptoms of COVID-19, and they do not need to self-isolate.”

Community & Public Health said it will be in touch with the school if there is any change to the current low level of risk from this close contact.

“COVID-19 symptoms It’s important to be vigilant for the symptoms of COVID-19. “
