An Air New Zealand plane was struck by lightning this morning.

A spokesperson said the Wellington bound Dash Q300 had to turn back to Invercargill.

She said the aircraft will now be assessed by engineers in Invercargill.

Customers have been re-accommodated on other services.

She said lightning strikes are not uncommon.

“Aircraft are designed with this in mind and our pilots train for this scenario.”
