Two early morning fires at Churches in Christchurch are being treated as suspicious.

The first was at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses just after 3am.

Crews were then called to the Cardboard Cathedral on Hereford Street around 3.30.

The fire at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Waitikiri Drive in Burwood was well involved by the time five crews arrived.

Officers were alerted to the fire at the Cardboard Cathedral by an automatic alarm.

The fire was out by the time two crews arrived at the scene. Fire investigators will look into the cause of both blazes today.

On Friday afternoon, fire investigators were called to a suspicious fire at Christchurch’s historic Harley Chambers building.
