Reading cinema and HOYTS Christchurch cinemas have finally reopened, in line with government and health department regulations following recent easing of certain government mandated COVID-19 closures.

Hollywood Theatre in Sumner has also reopened according to listings on its website.

Deluxe cinemas located in The Tannery, Woolston, reopened in May.

Academy Gold Cinema, located at the Columbo is also open.

Alice Cinema & Film Specialists is open too.

Reading’s Chief Executive Officer Ellen Cotter says “we are thrilled to welcome our guests and employees back to our cinemas in New Zealand.”

Reading along with most of the other players in Christchurch have developed new measures to protect the ongoing health and well-being of guests.

Included in the measures are a reduction in auditorium and lobby capacities and a staggered seating approach to ensure appropriate physical distancing.

Prior to the anticipated release of movies from the major studios, including Christopher Nolan’s Tenet from Warner Bros. and Disney’s Mulan, programming for New Zealand cinemas will include a mix of recently released major studio movies and older films.
