A person is in a critical condition after reportedly holding onto a moving vehicle before falling from it at speed on Tunnel Road late Saturday night.

A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com officers were called to Tunnel Road about 11.40pm after a person was found injured on the road.

The person was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition. Police said initial indications were that the person may have fallen from a moving vehicle.

The Serious Crash Unit examined the scene and enquiries were continuing.

A St John spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com it was notified of a motor vehicle incident.

Two rapid response units, an operations manager and an ambulance responded to the scene.

Ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
