Police appeal for information after man attacked while fishing on Avon River

Police are appealing for information after a person fishing along the Avon River in Christchurch was attacked by three men.

The victim was fishing on the corner of Retreat Road and Avonside Drive about 8.30pm on Friday 17 July when he was approached and assaulted, a police spokesperson said.

The victim required medical attention, a police spokesperson said.

The three offenders left the area shortly afterwards in a dark-coloured sedan believed to be a Peugeot.

No description of the offenders was provided by police.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about the offenders to come forward.

Anyone with CCTV cameras covering the area at the time is asked to review their footage and pass on any images of the offenders or the vehicle.
