Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash between a car and a train at Marsh Road crossing in Rangiora.

A Police spokeswoman told Chris Lynch emergency services received the first call at 7:25am.

She said the single occupant of the car sustained minor injuries.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said paramedics treated one patient and confirmed their injuries are minor.

A passenger aboard the Coastal Pacific told Chris Lynch she was on the train “going into Rangiora and a car and trailer went across the tracks ahead of the train.”

She said the train clipped the back of the trailer.

“The train stopped for over an hour while everything was checked before we were able to proceed. I think were given a new driver.”

Kiwirail has not responded to requests to comment.
