81-year-old Valerie Hargrave, who was reported missing in Christchurch, has been found alive.

A police spokesperson said she was found in Ferrymead this evening after days of extensive searching by police teams, assisted by members of the public.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie said she was extremely cold but talking to police and would be sent for a medical examination.

“Her family have been notified of this great result,” he said.

Police thanked everybody who assisted with search efforts in recent days.

A police spokeswoman confirmed to chrislynchmedia.com Valerie was found by police officers.

Ms Hargrave was last seen at her home in the St John Street area of Woolston on Thursday evening.

Search and Rescue teams, assisted by volunteers from LandSAR, had been working in the area in the days since, with police repeatedly appealing to the public to check in and around their properties.
