A person has been seriously injured following a helicopter crash on the South Island’s West Coast.
A police spokeswoman said the incident occurred in Haast just before 4pm.
A St John spokesperson said they were notified of the incident at Haast Pass Highway in Haast.
“One First Response unit, one Prime unit and one air rescue helicopter responded to the scene.
Our ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Dunedin Public Hospital by helicopter in a serious condition.”
A CAA spokesperson said the “Civil Aviation Authority is aware of the helicopter crash on the Haast Past.
“At this stage, the CAA will make initial enquiries to understand what occurred and why, and to determine whether any further action is required.”
