Two youths are facing charges after an attempted aggravated robbery in Christchurch last night.
Police were called to Kumai Place in Sockburn at about 9.40pm on Monday, following reports that two youths had threatened a person in an effort to rob them.
The victim managed to escape without injury, Senior Sergeant Gerard Peoples said.
The offenders then fled the scene with a group of other people in two vehicles, both of which had been reported stolen.
Officers conducting area enquiries spotted one of the vehicles a short time later on Lincoln Road. The driver failed to stop when signalled, but rather than pursue the car, Police maintained observations on it.
A Tyre Deflation Device was successfully deployed, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The two occupants fled on foot but were quickly located nearby by a Police dog unit.
Both youths were taken into custody at the scene.
The alleged driver has been charged in relation to the driving offences and will go through the Youth Court process in due course, Senior Sergeant Peoples said.
Police are continuing enquiries to identify and locate the other people involved in the incident.
