A Canterbury community is rallying behind the young family of Keelan McCann, who was killed in a crash on Main South Road in Selwyn.
Police have confirmed the man who died in the crash on 14 April was 30 year old Keelan Breeze McCann.
A second person who was seriously injured in the crash remains in hospital in a stable condition. Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Police have thanked members of the public who stopped at the scene to help those involved.
A Givealittle page has now been set up by long term friend Keegan Walsh to support Keelan’s wife Awhina and their two young daughters.
Writing on the page, Walsh described Keelan as a great friend, son, devoted husband and loving dad.
“He was someone who worked hard, looked after his family, and always had time for the people around him,” the page says.
“He leaves behind his wife Awhina, and their two young children, who are now facing life without their husband and dad far too soon. This is an unimaginable loss, and no family should have to carry the added burden of financial stress during a time like this.”
The page says no support is currently being provided by ACC, although some family members may apply in the future.
Funds raised will go towards supporting the children as they grow, including school expenses and daycare, day to day living costs, funeral costs, and time away from work while Awhina grieves.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a real difference for this young family,” the page says. “If you’re not in a position to donate, please consider sharing this page. It all helps.”
“Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for keeping Keelan, Awhina, and their children in your thoughts.”
